During the 1970's I was in High School and attended a couple of free concerts.

The first concert experience I had was at the Boston Garden. AM radio was the only exposure we had to music at the time. My friend Tony won tickets from W.M.E.X. for a concert with many artists performing and we were to have backstage passes to meet the bands. This show never materialized so instead we were offered front row seats to Led Zeppelin. There third album was about to be released. There were acoustic guitar songs on that release and I was glad they played a lot of that during concert. They were an intense band to see and very loud. My ears were ringing for at least a week!

They opened that concert with The Immigrant Song. The last songs were Whole Lotta Love and Bring it on Home and a Rock and Roll Medley.

I was glad that I experienced them at that point in their career. It was impossible to get tickets for them after that.

The second show I went to was also free. It was also in the 70's. The show was at the Hatch Memorial Shell where they have the 4th of July concerts every year.

My friend Tony from high school asked I would like to go, The headliner for free was Emerson, Lake & Palmer. I had no clue who they were at the time. He asked me if I had heard the song Lucky Man that was being played on the radio at the time. I said I would go even though it wasn't on the top of my music choices at the time. Boy what a surprise I was in for!

We had seats near the front (unheard of today). The other bands were:

I was hooked after the show. I must have seen them every time they came to town.
